Meet Your New Security Partner - SAIRA 2.0

SAIRA, our Simulated Adversarial Intelligence Reasoning Agent, has received significant upgrades, featuring expanded attack path analysis and advanced adversarial AI capabilities within the Frenos digital twin constructed as a replica of your operating environment. These improvements enable deeper insights into potential security vulnerabilities and more sophisticated threat analysis.

Additionally, this release includes the concept of campaigns, which are targeted sets of activities designed to emulate specific threat categories or even specific adversary groups and associated campaigns. This allows our analysis to be much more contextual than traditional assessments, to include safe but destructive testing and evolve as new threat intelligence is discovered.

Think of SAIRA as like having a team of senior penetration testers, threat hunters and analysts always working to accelerate your program allowing even junior members of your team to effectively join the fray in defending against advanced adversaries.

Consolidated OT Assessment Interface

In version 1.0 of the Frenos platform, we provided separate interfaces for validating network exposure and firewall rules, as well as for examining attack paths, steps, and exploitable vulnerabilities. As initial users of the platform, we are always looking for opportunities to streamline the process and make assessments easier to perform.

For the 2.0 release, we have merged these interfaces into a more intuitive design, with a constant focus on enhancing the user experience. This approach is a fundamental part of our design goals. Not only do we strive to build outstanding products, but we also want them to be a pleasure to use.

Our design philosophy is centered around putting the user first. We believe that exceptional user experience goes far beyond visual appeal, it’s about crafting interactions that feel natural, empowering, and even enjoyable. Every design decision is driven by the question: “How does this benefit the user?” This means focusing on simplicity, clarity, and intuitiveness so that even complex tasks become effortless.

In addition, we’ve also added more information about the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures used by our adversarial reasoning agent, additional threat intelligence around adversary campaigns and more details within the attack paths themselves. This information includes tighter integration with SAIRA and active feedback from our AI as new attack paths are uncovered inside the digital twin. It’s all right at your fingertips!

We already perform security assessments today at selective sites, how will this help me?

You can now perform more assessments, across more sites, continuously, utilizing the latest threat actor techniques and even utilize destructive techniques that could never be used on live production systems. And because we do not stop when domain admin is granted, we can take you much farther, all the way to impact and process impairment. That is not something you can do on live production OT environments, and only Frenos leverages a digital twin and AI reasoning agents together to perform assessments in this way.

I need to perform detailed and specialized research to answer the questions my boss is asking of me. How can you predict my needs?

We track the most important risks and adversarial campaigns across critical infrastructure and can quickly provision new campaigns in the Frenos platform. This allows us to address the most urgent issues impacting OT operations. This release also comes with improvements to the query interface to ask questions containing source and destination ip address, network names, destination ports and applications and even specific CVEs that you might be exposed to. Sometimes we like to explore the query interface and consider what new questions we can ask today, and SAIRA then uses these answers to also learn new paths to attack on a continuous basis.

How can I confirm the results in your platform are accurate?

Our Assess interface includes full visibility of the firewall rules and compensating controls implemented on every network and asset found in the attack path. This added context helps you to see exactly what is preventing or allowing the attack to be successful. Additionally, the output from SAIRA and the exact steps she took, and how these TTPs led to deeper exploitation, pivots and lateral movement before accomplishing her objective are right at your fingertips. The AI widget is displayed right next to the attack paths showcasing exploitation. In essence, we show you the evidence.

What do I do with the risks you identify?

Mitigation support is available directly from the attack path in the attack steps panel, deep-linked to the mitigation records needed to resolve the issue. From this interface in Defend, you can mitigate the issue, accept the risk or implement compensating controls. These mitigations are prioritized by risk, including the level of efforts needed to implement the controls and the impact it will have on your operation. Since these are tied directly to attack steps, they also are also purpose-designed to disrupt the adversary. And if you need a reminder of what prompted the issue in the first place, we provide an easy button back to the attack path and network topology from inside the mitigation records for full end-to-end workflows!

How long does it take to implement?

Unlike digital twins of the past, we can implement the Frenos platform in a matter of minutes and results within hours of installation. This is not the digital twin of yesterday. It works on commodity hardware such as modern laptops, can be installed on-premise or in your cloud, and can be easily operated by junior security personnel. With this release, we have added additional support tooling to make it even easier for us to help you get running and performing assessments on day 0.

We’ve also added an integration with Nozomi Networks OT device visibility platform to complement our existing portfolio with other industry-leading solutions. Many of our customers have been asking for the ability to incorporate their Nozomi data into the Frenos digital twin, and we are excited to bring this capability into the 2.0 release.
